Early Detection Can Save Your Vision

Comprehensive eye exams are a vital part of caring for your eyes. Not only can your optometrist check that your eyewear prescription is up-to-date, but they can also screen for any signs of serious eye conditions and diseases.

Many eye diseases develop without noticeable symptoms, particularly in their initial stages, and can cause permanent vision damage. Catching these conditions early allows your optometrist to help slow their progression or even prevent vision loss.

Protect your precious sight today with a comprehensive eye exam.

Diabetic Eye Disease

If you’re living with diabetes, you’re at an increased risk of eye diseases. Diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema can both lead to irreversible vision loss.

As diabetes affects your blood glucose, it can also impact your blood vessels, including the delicate blood vessels in your eyes. To manage your risk, it’s important to have annual or more frequent diabetic eye exams, which monitor your eyes in great depth for any changes or signs of disease.

Our experienced optometrists can help you stay on top of your visual and overall health.

Glaucoma Management

At Go Vision, we screen regularly for glaucoma, a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve. We measure your eye pressure, test your peripheral (side) vision, and use optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans and retinal imaging to view detailed images of the inside of your eyes.

We can help manage glaucoma during the early stages through prescription eye drops to help lower eye pressure. If your condition worsens, we’ll refer you to an ophthalmologist to provide surgical intervention. During any surgical treatment, we will work closely with you and your surgeon to monitor your condition and progress during your recovery.

Other Eye Diseases We Manage

Beyond diabetic eye disease and glaucoma, our optometrists are also well-versed in detecting and managing other eye conditions. Some of the other most common conditions include macular degeneration, cataracts, and keratoconus.

To help detect, monitor, and manage various eye conditions, we utilize a range of technologies and innovative imaging techniques, including OCT scans, retinal imaging, visual field tests, and others. These technologies allow us to see microscopic changes in your eyes or vision that indicate emerging conditions, allowing for early intervention.

AMD damages the macula, causing central vision loss that can hinder daily activities, such as driving and reading. Early AMD is often symptom-free and is typically detected through regular eye exams. As it progresses, symptoms include blurry central vision, dark spots, and wavy lines. If you notice these symptoms, book an eye exam right away.

Keratoconus causes a thinning, cone-shaped cornea, often leading to blurry or double vision, light sensitivity, and increased nearsightedness or astigmatism. Our doctors diagnose and manage keratoconus, including fitting specialized contact lenses to address the condition. While the condition often stabilizes, we continue to monitor your vision and explore effective correction methods.

Cataracts occur when the eye’s clear lens becomes cloudy, affecting vision. Causes include age, UV damage, trauma, and diabetes. UV-protective sunglasses can help to slow their development.

Initially, we manage cataracts with updated glasses or contact lenses. If they begin to significantly impact daily life and can’t be corrected with lenses, we’ll refer you to a cataract surgeon.

Conjunctivitis (also called pink eye) is an inflammation of the clear tissue covering the white part of your eye and the inside of your eyelids, typically causing redness, itching, and discharge. It can be:

    • Viral: Often spreads easily and usually clears on its own.

    • Bacterial: May cause more discharge and usually needs antibiotic drops.

    • Allergic: Linked to allergens like pollen and often comes with itching and tearing.

If you or your child has suspected conjunctivitis, contact us right away. We’ll get you in quickly and recommend the right treatment.

Dry eye disease occurs when your eyes don’t produce enough tears or the right quality of tears to stay properly lubricated. Common early symptoms include scratchiness, burning, or a gritty feeling. If left untreated, it can irritate or damage the surface of the eye, including the cornea. Treatment options range from lubricating or medicated eye drops to warm compresses, eyelid hygiene, and other therapies that help restore healthy tear production and comfort.

Flashes of light or floaters in your vision may indicate changes to the vitreous gel. While often harmless, they can signal serious conditions, such as retinal detachment, which can potentially cause vision loss. If you notice any changes in your vision, please contact us immediately to help identify the cause and prevent potential permanent damage.

Proactively Care for Your Eyes Today

Your eyes are the windows to your body. They can indicate more than eye diseases. In fact, up to 273 systemic health conditions have ocular signs or symptoms that can be detected through an eye exam, including diabetes, asthma, and Sjögren’s Syndrome.

Your eyes are the only place in your body where we can see your blood vessels through noninvasive measures like retinal imaging and a slit lamp microscope. By checking the blood vessels during your eye exam, we can monitor any changes that might indicate both eye diseases and other systemic health conditions.

Take care of your health before symptoms appear. Book your eye exam today.
